Street Outreach
The goal of the Coastal Bend AIDS Foundation's (CBAF's) Outreach program is to provide linguistically and culturally appropriate, clear, concise, easy to understand risk-reductions messages and tools that are relevant to all members of our community.
Street outreach accomplishes this mission through two projects:
• Project F.R.E.E. (Focused Risk-Reduction Education and Empowerment)
• Project B.E.S.O.S. (Bringing Everyone Street Outreach Services)
The staff of both of these programs work at various hours during the day, throughout the week, to reach the greatest number of at-risk citizens in the Coastal Bend. The programs serve Nueces, San Patricio, Jim Wells and Kleberg Counties.
Services include:
• Confidential/Anonymous HIV Rapid Testing (Results in as little as 20 minutes) free of charge.
• Screening and Referrals
• HIV/AIDS, STD, and Hepatitis C Education
• Substance Abuse Education
• Client-centered risk reduction strategies and techniques
Although there is no cure for HIV, we strongly believe it can be prevented. Each year throughout the world there are 5,000,000 new HIV/AIDS diagnoses, and each new diagnosis represents a prevention failure; prevention messages that were not brought to the community or were not given in a context that was relevent to members of the community. Each year, there are 3,000,000 deaths world-wide due to HIV/AIDS related compications. Treatment failure due to late diagnosis, limited access to testing sites, and limited or no access to medical care and/or antiretroviral medications.
Our goal is to make these services affordable, available, and accessible to all members of our community.
